He is a researcher at the Digital Energy and Power System (DEPS) Group at Cornell, working under the supervision of Professor. Lang Tong, IEEE Fellow. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in ECE from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, KSA, in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

Ahmed is a teaching assistant in the ECE school at Cornell University, and has worked as a PhD research intern in multiple companies and national labs including the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), Golden, CO, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Palo Alto, CA, The Brattle Group, Boston, MA and Saudi Aramco, Dhahran, KSA. Before starting his Ph.D., Ahmed was a lecturer at KFUPM.

Ahmed is the winner of two best paper awards at the IEEE Saudi Arabia Smart Grid conference and the 10th KFUPM Student Scientific Forum in 2018 and 2019, respectively. In 2022, he received the esteemed MiSK Fellowship Award for empowering Future Saudi Leaders.

His research interests include energy systems control and optimization, DER aggregation and adoption dynamics, and efficient market mechanisms for transactive energy. In his research, Ahmed uses tools such as mathematical analysis, optimization, control theory, and dynamic programming. Ahmed’s work on transactive energy systems uses tools such as pricing theory, game theory, and mechanism design.

In his free time, Ahmed enjoys writing (poems and comic articles), in addition to playing soccer and badminton.
