About
I am an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. I received my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) with a minor in Economics from Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, in 2024, and my M.Sc. and B.Sc. in ECE from KFUPM in 2019 and 2016, respectively. Following my Ph.D., I joined MIT’s Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS) as a postdoctoral researcher, working with Audun Botterud and Saurabh Amin.
My research focuses on energy and water systems, where I employ tools from optimization and control, economics, mechanism design, and game theory to address challenges in complex societal-scale systems.
During my PhD, I worked as a Ph.D. research intern at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and the Brattle Group. My research has been recognized with awards including the Best Paper Award at the IEEE 2024 PES General Meeting, the IEEE 2018 Saudi Arabia Smart Grid conference, and the 2019 KFUPM Student Scientific Forum. In 2022, I received the MiSK Fellowship Award and was subsequently selected as a member of the Saudi Leadership Society (SLS). In 2024, I was among the four researchers who won the Ibn Rushd Postdoctoral fellowship award for outstanding research.
Outside of research, I enjoy creative writing, especially poetry and comic prose, as well as playing soccer and badminton.
